[ Home ] Clayfield Shiraz 2005 Released December 2007 A fuller style of Grampians Shiraz showing good length and generous flavour, again typically spicy and peppery with floral fragrance of dark-fruited plums, the wine is round, medium to full in weight and sumptuously flavoured. It’s well-ripened finishing long with juicy savoury characters with lingering fruit brightness and peppery undertones. The oak maturation and handling is well balanced combining both fruit and barrel tannins harmoniously. Decanting is recommended. Cellar for 10 years+ Clayfield Shiraz 2004 Released July 2006 (Jeremy Oliver's latest review of the 2004 Shiraz) A rather Hermitage-like Shiraz whose spicy, peppery and floral fragrance of dark-fruited plums, blackberries remains closed and rather brooding. Full to medium in weight, it’s sumptuously flavoured but hides its strength behind a tightly knit but firm and fine-grained backbone that will become more velvet-like with time. It’s well-ripened and generously flavoured, finishing long and savoury, with lingering fruit brightness and peppery undertones. 95/100 drink 2016-2024 Decanting is recommended. Lovely spicy, mulberry aromas - very vibrant. Impressive palate; still very youthful, showing a degree of elegance and with long, lingering, lively spicy flavours and a silky-smooth mouthfeel. Clayfield Massif 'Thomas Wills Shiraz' 2006 The 2006 Massif has a deep bright ruby red colour with a purple hue. The nose has plenty of dark fruit, licorice and spicy/pepper aromas with attractive oak. The juicy fruit palate exhibits typical Grampians Shiraz ripe plums and spice, medium to full in body finishing dry with nice tannin. Sealed with Stelvin capsules this wine will retain its freshness and also benefit from decanting and patient breathing before drinking during the next six or more years of maturation. Back labeled with a short story describing the important influence that Thomas Wills had on the formation of Australian Rules Football and his formative years in the early pioneering time at Moyston.
